Opel and works council agree on future set-up for R&D center in Rüsselsheim
Rüsselsheim. Opel management and works council have found an agreement in the arbitration board to overcome the overcapacities in the engineering center in Rüsselsheim, while preserving the core competences to support Opel’s future. The parties agreed to re-start the voluntary separation program PACE! for R&D employees – including early retirement and ATZ for the generations until 1963. At the same time, Opel and Segula Technologies confirm their strategic partnership to secure highly qualified jobs in the research and development sector in Rüsselsheim and Dudenhofen for the long term. This reached agreement will allow the affected employees a choice between the options. In total, 2,000 positions at Opel are affected.
Groupe PSA reiterates that its Rüsselsheim Engineering Center is and will remain at the core of the company’s R&D and will be at the right competitive level to continue the handling of design and engineering of future Opel/Vauxhall models. In addition, the Rüsselsheim Engineering Center is in charge of global tasks for Groupe PSA, like the development of light commercial vehicles, a new engine family, as well as the 15 Centers of Competence for fields such as fuel cell development.
Opel and the works council also came to a positive agreement concerning the permanent employment of apprentices from the period summer 2018 to winter 2019.
