Twitter video Q+A session for 2017 Opel works driver

Rüsselsheim.  Newly crowned European Junior Rally Champion Chris Ingram has been talking about his successful 2017 season as a works Opel rally driver in a video Q+A on Twitter.

The 23 year-old Briton from Manchester, England, who won three of six rounds in this year’s European Junior Rally Championship (Azores Airlines Rallye/Portugal, Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés/Spain and Rally Liepāja/Latvia), said the best things about his works Opel ADAM R2 rally car are the “chassis and suspension (which) are perfect together, so nimble. It’s the best in class in R2 rallying.” On his own Opel ADAM S road car Ingram added: “I absolutely love it. Everything about the car is perfect.”

Ingram revealed that the biggest challenge of 2017 and his career so far was beating his team-mate, Finn Jari Huttunen. “(He) is incredibly strong. Every surface, every rally! So difficult to beat, he’s an incredible talent.”

The 2017 junior champion announced that his next goal is to become European Rally Champion overall, in an R5 car. “I’m confident because I know the rallies really well already thanks to the last few seasons with Opel and we’ve already had some really strong competitions.”

Asked what it takes to become a successful rally driver, Ingram replied: “(It is) not just the driving. I work very hard on my sponsorship, on my media profile. I know it’s very important for Opel and my other sponsors. I work very hard on the whole package and I think that’s crucial to becoming a successful driver.”

Ingram offered the following advice for aspiring rally drivers: “Do as much motorsport as you can. Build your skill, your knowledge, your experience. Get involved, go and enjoy the events and chase your dream.”
