  • New deal: Long-term contract signed with brand ambassador Klopp today
  • New company car: White right-hand drive Opel Insignia Grand Sport for star coach

Rüsselsheim.  Opel and Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp announced that both parties have agreed on an extension to the current contract. The new deal will see Klopp continue as the company’s brand ambassador in the upcoming years.

Opel and Jürgen Klopp have been working together since August of 2012 when the charismatic and amiable football manager joined as the company’s brand ambassador. Over the last five years, the positive brand development can be closely linked to the former 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund coach who joined Liverpool in October 2015. Since joining Opel, he has featured in 17 television adverts in addition to the many other commitments he fulfils on behalf of the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker.

“We are delighted that Jürgen will remain part of the Opel family because he is the perfect match for the Opel brand. He convincingly stands for many things that the Opel represents today and wants to embody going forward. The future is everyone’s and we are looking forward to the future with Jürgen Klopp,” said Opel CMO Tina Müller.

“I have always been very proud to be associated with the Opel brand because we share so much common ground. I look forward to continuing the cooperation and playing my part in the company’s comeback,” said Klopp.

In addition to addressing the participants of the “OPELxWIRED future.mobility“ conference and putting pen to paper on his new deal with the company, the 49-year-old was also in Rüsselsheim to collect an early and truly unique birthday present. Three days shy of his 50th birthday, Klopp collected his brand new company car. The fully-equipped Abalone White right-hand drive Opel Insignia Grand Sport comes with the 191 kW/260 hp top-of-the-line 2.0 Direct Injection Turbo (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 11.5 l/100 km, extra-urban 7.1 l/100 km, combined 8.7 l/100 km; 199 g/km CO2), an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a highly sophisticated all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring. “I have loved the new Insignia since the first time I saw it. In Liverpool we would simply say: It’s massive,” said the Liverpool manager.
